ABOUT PARIS

There is a surprising amount of beautiful countryside in the Parisian ‘green belt’. We have created our own descriptive area, we call PARIS OUTSKIRTS, because we feel to use the French administrative ‘departments’ would be more confusing for travellers from the UK.

We feature golf to the west and north of the city, but far enough from the bustle and traffic of France’s capital to be accessible and easy reached by fast roads from Calais. Your journey time in France is between 2 ½ and 3 hours. Of course, Paris itself may only be ½ and hour away by train from your hotel, so you may wish to pop in to the city on a day off.

North of Paris

Chantilly

Under 2 ½ hours’ drive from Calais, Chantilly is an historic town, some 50km north of Paris. The town is small and is home to the national horse museum, race track, restored château, splendid parks and gardens and the Chantilly Forest. This relatively quiet place is the source of crème Chantilly and lace. Chantilly Golf Club is a famous and private club, where green fees are sold on certain days of the week only, at a price! There are plenty of more affordable options, minutes from our chosen hotel.

The golf resort of Mont Griffon is within reach of Chantilly, [15 minutes away by car] but in the ‘Val de Oise’ area, a little further north of the capital. Also within easy reach, Auvers sur Oise and Argenteuil, which have great meaning for van Gogh aficionados. Beautiful rolling countryside and great views, with a convenient road network to enable golfers to visit a number of excellent members’ clubs, mostly with great on-site facilities.

West of Paris

Think ‘Versailles’ and once more you will find tradition, beautiful countryside and parkland in an historic part of the Parisian landscape.

Le Golf National is located in this part of the world and was the 2018 Ryder Cup venue. The quality of this gem has attracted the eyes of the golfing public and with good reason.

We have also included Le Golf Parc in this area, as it lays on the borders of Eure [Normandy], but is within the Parisian green belt, to the west. It is more of a ‘stay and play’ destination, though can be combined with several courses in easy driving distance.

The ‘Region Parisienne’ is home to many often highly-rated and exclusive golf clubs. Green fees at such clubs are not really possible, which is why we don’t raise your hopes by including them…you need to know a member to play courses like Morfontaine and Saint-Cloud.
